Top Yielding Brazil Telecom Stocks

Are Brazilian stocks worth calling on? The growth in the number of cellular phones has increased by more than 17% in the last year, according to Teleco. Brazil has several telecom companies which are publicly traded, most of which trade on the New York Stock Exchange. According to the free list of Brazil stocks at WallStreetNewsNetwork.com, there are almost half a dozen Brazilian telecom companies that pay yields in excess of 1.5%.

Oi (TNE), based in Rio De Janeiro, was formerly called Telemar, but is also still called Telemar Norte Leste S.A., is the largest landline telephone company in Brazil and the second biggest in Latin America, behind Mexican América Móvil (AMX), based on both the number of lines in service and on revenues.
The company has over 22 million land lines, more than 31 million wireless customers, 4 million ADSL subscribers and approximately 44,000 employees. Oi is Portuguese for “Hi”. The stock has a forward P/E of 8.4 with a fairly generous yield of 3.2%.

Monthly Dividend Stocks

There are plenty of benefits to owning stocks that pay their dividends monthly. According to the Excel list that was just updated by WallStreetNewsNetwork.com, there are over 200 different companies that pay dividends monthly, many of which have high yields. Technically, these stocks are real estate investment trusts, oil income trusts, closed end bond funds, and closed end income stock funds, which pay dividends every month. Advantages to receiving monthly dividends as opposed to quarterly or annual dividend stocks are that the invested capital is returned faster, compounding takes place quicker, and there is usually less price volatility of the investment. Also, many of monthly dividend investments pay dividends that are tax free.

An example is the MFS Multimarket Income Trust (MMT) which pays a yield of 7.80%. The stock trades at a 9.2% to net asset value. The company, which has been around since 1987, has a management fee of 0.82%.

Tax Selling Bargain Stocks

One popular stock trading technique that has proven successful with many short term investors is buying stocks that are beaten down during the month of December. These are the stocks which have dropped due to people dumping their shares which were purchased at much higher prices, in order to take a tax loss establishing the loss in the 2010 calendar year. Many shareholders own stocks that they have held for three or four years, or even longer that are currently trading at a loss. The investors may need to take a loss to offset a capital gain that was generated this year. Update on High Yield China Stocks

China is planning interest rate hikes later this week, causing many Chinese stocks to drop in price. The country is making this move in order to keep inflation under control. Now that the news is out, it may be a buying opportunity. Investors who are willing to take the risk of investing in China stocks are choosing ones that pay dividends, in order to reduce risk by returning capital faster and possibly reducing volatility.
